Friday 13th…September 13, 2019

Birthday and Anniversary

The birthday wheel has once again made it’s yearly turn, so has the wheel of wedding anniversaries. Yes, today Friday 13th is my birthday and wedding anniversary. Hey, I tried to make it easy for my husband when I married him. One date to remember and he could even combine the gifts into one single gift.

Was I actually born on Friday 13th? No, September 13th happened to be on a Wednesday the year I was born. No, I did not get married on Friday 13th, I was married on a Saturday.

My Age

I won’t tell you the year of my birth. English actress, author and columnist, Joan Collins stated, ” Age is just a number. It is totally irrelevant unless of course you happen to be a bottle of wine. Therefore, as I am not a bottle of wine, the year I was born and my age are completely irrelevant.

For those of you who may be a tad bit or a whole lot superstitious, Friday 13th is considered an unlucky day. Do we really know why people consider Friday 13th an unlucky day? For centuries both the day itself, Friday and the number thirteen have been considered unlucky.

Hangman’s Day

They say we do not know the day we will die. Some of us never will know. In years past those in Britain that had been tried and condemned to die for their bad deeds knew that their death would occur on a Friday, Hangman’s Day.

The Thirteenth Guests

Judas, the thirteenth guest to sit down at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus. Loki, the thirteenth guest at a Norse god’s dinner party caused the world to be plunged into darkness.

Unlucky day, unlucky number?

In the last century those who were superstitious combined Friday and the thirteenth together to create an unlucky day now known as Friday 13th.

Do you believe

Do you hold the superstition that Friday 13th is unlucky? Or like me, does Friday 13th bring you good fortune and good luck.
